Pankration
is an authentic Greek combat sport that was an integral part
of the Olympic games from 648 BC for about 1000 years.
Its name comes
from the words PAN + KRATOS, which means:
the one who has power, the one who wins with total strength
and knowledge.
As the host
of the Olympic games
in 2004, we are acting to insert Pankration to the games.
Pankration essence
is being an Olympic game for all martial arts, because it
allows all martial artists and fighters to play against each
other in a very liberal but yet safe set of rules.
In Pankration
the only techniques that are ruled out are the ones which
may cause irreversible damage like: strangulation, head throws
and brutal attacks to the head, groin, spine or joints.
Kicking, punching,
throws, holds, bars, knee attacks, elbow attacks, head punches
and more are all legal as long as they are executed in a legitimate
and designated area.
Contact to the
body is full but controlled, contact to the head is light
(skin touch or no touch).
KO, winning
by points, submission or quitting awards winning.
