DANIEL'S DUNGEON
No-Bull@#$% Advice on Sports, Strength, and Conditioning
Daniel Foronda Jr.
Welcome to the Dungeon! This Department will expose the
truth on gym and exercise tips that some of your gym instructors
does not know about. Admit it, most gym instructors are just there
to play "pogi boy" on the clients, assisting only those
they want to help and often times will give you the most horrible
exercise advice.
The evolution of exercise gave a lot of impact in the fitness industry
and we are too credulous to accept what was being lectured to us
by many a fitness seminar guest speakers. But we as listeners, must
open our mind and be smart to ask the speakers some questions that
they must answer very well to convince us. One of the most debatable
topics I have ever encountered is the Law On Isometrics.
Isometrics is the pushing and pulling action against an immovable
object. Who's been doing Isometrics nowadays? None! If there's anyone
in the gym who is doing this exercise, he or she will surely get
an advice from the gym instructors to quit it. What is wrong with
this exercise anyway? I'll tell you what's wrong with this thing.
If you do this exercise in the gym, and somebody approached you
and advised you to stop it, that's when isometrics becomes wrong.
Otherwise, Isometrics is such a very nice exercise that has been
put out of fashion due to the arrival of commercial gyms, health
spas, sophisticated exercise equipment, slimming drugs, and uncertified
wise-ass fitness trainers!
I dare you right now to stand up and rest your back against a wall.
Try to push the wall with your upper back by using a hyper extension
movement using your lower back. Imagine that your upper back is
like your arms pushing the wall. Push as hard as you can as if you're
trying to move the wall from its place.
Now how does this movement feel? Most likely, you cannot procreate
the needed strength to even give it your best push. You will have
trouble feeling the muscles that are called to use because you have
not trained from this angle and you have not used the muscles that
was being asked by your body to do the action.
The good thing about Isometrics is that it does not only make you
stronger but it helps you feel every little muscle you're working,
even the ones you've never felt before. There are countless Isometrics
that you can do virtually anywhere, anytime. If you have forgotten
this very beautiful exercise, incorporate this to your present program.
Before all you gym instructors open your mouth and react to this
article, I am not saying that this exercise can give you the body
of Mr. Olympia, you damn steroid nuts! I am suggesting that you
incorporate this method if you want to get even stronger. And don't
ever tell those people in the gym who are doing isometrics that
is wrong. It's not wrong and it definitely works, "pogi boy!"
